Learning by Doing
UTMSI’s GK-12 program is founded on the principle that science is best learned by through tangible encounters with nature, both inside an outside the classroom.
Utilizing the immense wealth of natural settings of the Gulf Coast and a wide array of classroom/field equipment, UTMSI wet labs, and research vessels, our program staff creates powerful learning experiences
for students. We strive to illustrate vital scientific concepts in a way that connects students with their natural surroundings, thereby establishing personal associations with both nature and the
scientists that study nature.
Fellows and teachers also attend annual workshops and lectures to improve their curriculum, and share new ways of teaching science in their classrooms.
